I brought some friends to the Rude Dog once a few days after I'd had a good time there. It was the first experience at the place, and I was hyping it up on the drive over.
We walked into the place to the sound of a very loud, thumping bass beat, as a DJ was blaring some dance tunes over the speaker system. Since no one was dancing -- and there were only about 15 people in the bar at the time anyway -- it seemed kind of weird. We ordered a drink, took care of business and walked out shortly after.
My friends then asked me what was so cool about the place that prompted me to bring them there. I had no answer then, and I'm not sure I have a real specific answer now -- but I'm sticking to my story. I like the place. For the record, the DJ is a rare occurence. One usually plays Thursday nights, but that's it. There also are live bands on Fridays and karaoke every Saturday, but that's not as bad.
Other than that, it's a fairly ordinary suburban bar up near Polaris.
On the plus side, it's pretty new, so it's clean and there's a nice interior. There's a long bar with plenty of stools, plus some high tables and booths if you're there for the company and the food more than the booze. There's also a big patio with several more tables outside, and there's a space heater out there during the winter to keep it from getting too cold.
On the inside, there are a ton of flat-screen TVs, including three behind the bar. And the food is pretty good -- the wings are solid, and the Rude Dog Club sandwich is huge. It's a good deal, and it tastes good.
But perhaps the two reasons to keep coming back to the Dog are the prices and the service. Although the normal prices aren't anything too incredible, there are daily specials that rotate every day. And you can always get a tall Killian's or Bud Select for $2.20, at any hour. Beer-lovers everywhere will surely rejoice at that.
And the bartenders here are among the best in town. Friendly, funny, efficient -- whatever you're looking for, they're likely to have it. And the weird thing is, they all get more efficient and funnier the more you drink. So don't be shy.
