It's never easy finding a cheap, laid-back spot amidst hustle and bustle of downtown. But Char Bar on High Street (right across from the Greater Columbus Convention Center), is a perfect down-home, neighborhood bar ... just without the neighborhood.
Char Bar has been around in some fashion since the early 1960s. It started as a restaurant with a few locations around town before it consolidated and because a popular campus bar, just north of the Short North. It has been at its High Street location since 1991, and it's become your typical "Cheers"-like establishment (no food, just drinks) offering that friendly everyone-knows-your-name feel to the ever-changing crowd that surrounds the Convention Center.
