Phillip Phillips recovering from surgery
Posted June 7, 2012
New American Idol champ Phillip Phillips finally had his surgery.
He was set to have it last week, but was under the weather with a sinus infection and postponed it until Wednesday. TMZ reports it was a six-and-a-half hour surgery to remove several kidney stones. EW.com reports that they "were so huge there was no chance he could've passed them on his own."
The operation went well, Leslie Fradkin of 19 Entertainment told AP.
In March, Phillips, 21, who suffers from a congenital kidney condition, underwent a surgical procedure to have a stent implanted into his kidney to prevent blockage, so that he could remain a contestant on the show.
Fradkin said Phillips is looking forward to the July 6 start of the Idols Live tour in Detroit.
Meanwhile, Ryan Seacrest tweeted a photo of himself today, noting: "14 days after the finale ... today is our first day of @AmericanIdol." Auditions kicked off today in Los Angeles.
