The Closer's Brenda Leigh Johnson (Emmy winner Kyra Sedgwick) received a proper farewell Monday, as 9.1 million viewers tuned into the finale of the TNT police drama, solidifying its status as the summer's No. 1 cable series.
It was the second-most-watched episode during the seven-season run of the show, trailing only the 2007 midseason finale (9.2 million), and it marked the biggest cable series audience of the summer.
The premiere of spinoff Major Crimes, which followed The Closer, scored 7.2 million viewers, making it the biggest series premiere on cable in 2012. With Dallas (6.9 million) and Perception (5.6 million), TNT now has the three top cable series launches of the year.
