On the heels of what is being described as a meltdown at the iHeartRadio concert in Las Vegas on Friday night, Billie Joe Armstrong, 40, in checking into rehab.
His rep tells USA TODAY's Edna Gundersen that the Green Day rocker is "seeking treatment for substance abuse."
E! News reports that Armstrong went on an f-bomb-dropping rant, flipping off the camera and smashing his guitar when he thought the band's set was cut short to give more time to Usher and Rihanna.
As he noticed a one-minute warning sign in the back of the arena, Armstrong stopped singing and said, "You've gotta be (expletive) kidding me! You're (expletive) kidding me. What the (expletive) I'm not(expletive) Justin Bieber, you mother(expletive)â?¦I got one minuteâ??one minute left," among other things.
The group's rep Brian Bumbery says in a statement that "Green Day would like everyone to know that their set was not cut short by Clear Channel and to apologize to those they offended at the iHeartRadio Festival in Las Vegas. The band regretfully must postpone some of their upcoming promotional appearances."
The group is set to release its new album Uno on Tuesday and is set to launch a nationwide tour in November.
Earlier this month, Armstrong was rushed to a hospital in Bologna, Italy, for an undisclosed ailment. It was unclear what type of substance Armstrong is seeking treatment for. In 2003, he was arrested for drunken driving in Berkeley, Calif.
