TV tonight: 'Charlie Brown,' 'Rockefeller Center'

A Charlie Brown Christmas
ABC, 8 ET/PT
One of the best and best-loved Christmas specials - and one of the few to actually address the religious origins of the holiday - returns again as ABC offers another run of its remastered version of the 1965 Charles Schulz classic. Because networks insert more commercial time than they once did, Charlie Brown is now too big for a half-hour slot (unless you cut it, as was once the practice) but too small for an hour. So to fill out the slot, ABC is also repeating the seven-minute animated Disney short Prep & Landing: Operation Secret Santa. No, it's not Charlie Brown, but then, what is?
Christmas in Rockefeller Center
NBC, 8 ET/PT
While Charlie Brown is probably the most popular Christmas cartoon, it wasn't the first. That honor goes to the too-seldom-broadcast animated musical Mr Magoo's Christmas Carol, which NBC, bless its corporate heart, is giving a rare network run on Dec. 22 in honor of Magoo's 50th anniversary. To show your gratitude in advance, spend at least a little time tonight with NBC at this musical special, set to feature performances by Trace Adkins and Rod Stewart, among others. You'll have time to come on over from ABC when Charlie Brown ends.
Hot in Cleveland
TVLand, 10 ET/PT
Eventually, every veteran TV star will show up on Hot in Cleveland - which isn't such a bad idea. Tonight, Regis Philbin returns as Elka's (Betty White) love interest Pierre, kicking off a new season that will also include guest turns by Georgia Engel and Heather Locklear.
