Presidential elections remain hot.
Penguin Press announced Tuesday that it will publish Double Down: Game Change 2012 by Mark Halperin and John Heilemann next fall. HBO has already optioned the rights to the book, which will report on the battle between Mitt Romney and Barack Obama for the presidency.
HBO's Game Change, based on the authors' book of the same name about the 2008 election, starred Julianne Moore as Sarah Palin and won five Emmy Awards earlier this year. It was one of the most viewed original movies in the network's history.
"John Heilemann and Mark Halperin reinvented the campaign narrative with Game Change," Penguin's Ann Godoff said in a statement. "Their new book, Double Down, will, of course, break news. But more importantly, it will create the lasting story of the 2012 race for the presidency."
Upon publication in 2010, Game Change entered USA TODAY's Best-Selling Books list at No. 3 and remained in the top 150 for 14 weeks. The book became an international best seller and was widely credited as the definitive account of the 2008 campaign.
