Conor Maynard makes a bold impression with 'Contrast'

British singer Conor Maynard has his sights set on American success after topping the U.K. charts with his debut, 'Contrast.'

Album of the week: Whether you think the third British Invasion started with Adele or One Direction, it's hard not to see Conor Maynard as its latest front.
A 20-year-old YouTube sensation whose debut album, Contrast (* * * out of four), already has topped the U.K. chart, Maynard and his urban pop are conquering American playlists with Turn Around, a collaboration with R&B singer Ne-Yo.
Pharrell and Rita Ora are guests here, as well, and Frank Ocean co-writes one of the album's highlights, the falsetto-tinged Pictures. Given Maynard's age and back story, comparisons to Justin Bieber are inevitable, but Contrast suggests he'll outgrow them.
