North Market event will quench your hunger and thirst
Metromix: You’ve been a part of North Market for four years. What kind of growth have you seen for this festival during the last few years?
Mary Martineau: Four years ago, we went from about 12 wineries to 18 wineries. Now there’s about 10,000 people who come to the festival each year. We’ve probably doubled in size.
There are a handful of non-eating-related activities involved in the festival. Was it always intended to grow into this?
Anytime we have a festival, we have things for families going on. There’s always been a full schedule of live music. There’s generally some sort of kids’ activity [like] face painting. It’s too warm in July, but we’ll have a petting zoo—things like that going on. We’re a family-friendly place. We try to incorporate the whole family. Obviously drinking wine is more of an adult-focused event, but people are still here on Saturdays and Sundays, so we provide something for the kids to do.
