'Project 10' sprouts wings ... again
As the annual Columbus Arts Festival takes hold of downtown this weekend, a young theater troupe hopes to begin its own annual tradition.
Theatre Daedalus, founded last summer by a trio of writers—Jaclyn Villano, Jeremy Sony and Michael Parsons—will present its second annual "Project 10" theater event Saturday and Sunday (June 5-6), in hopes that last year's success wasn't just beginner's luck.
"Project 10" puts the cast and crew on a fast-paced race to the finish, presenting 10 plays that are all 10 minutes long. The plays Villano, Sony and Parsons have created (in just 10 weeks, mind you) will showcase 40 characters, with only 16 actors available to showcase them all. It sounds like a task worth seeing.
Do you think it will be a success? The budding troupe thinks so, hoping that when it releases its proverbial "baby" for the second time, it won't meet a disastrous end, much like that of Icarus, who is Daedalus' son in the classic Greek tale from which the company got its name.
"Last year the inaugural ‘Project 10,' premiered to a packed house at MadLab Theatre, so we moved to a larger venue and added another night to this year's run," Villano said in an e-mail.
The second installment of the event will makes its way over to the Columbus Performing Arts Center for shows at 8 p.m. June 6 and 2 p.m. June 7.
Tickets are $10 and can be purchased through Ticketleap. For more information, visit the Theatre Daedalus Web site. Also, be sure to head back here Monday for the full Metromix review of the show. Click through the photos to see a preview of what the show will look like.
