Soul! exhibit invades C-bus
From a personal point of view, why should people make it a point to come out and see it?
A couple of reasons. One is that this artwork has individually traveled around the country for a long time-it's been borrowed by The Smithsonian, by big city museums-but it's not ever been together in an exhibit at one time before and it's never been in Columbus. That's highly significant.
On the more theoretical side, we're trying to give people of all cultures the chance to see the passion that artists have and how that is expressed. We are hoping that people will see things that will resonate with their own life experience. The next step after that is using art as a way to bridge cultures. If I am looking at your artwork and through your artwork I understand that you have an experience or emotion that's much like mine, we now have a bridge. Exhibitions in general have a way of creating change and I think this one's got huge potential for making connections where they don't exist.
