Blake Allen in "Two Girls and a Guy" (1997)
Two-timing actor Blake Allen returns home to his Manhattan apartment, only to be accosted by both of his girlfriends (Heather Graham and Natasha Gregson Wagner), who were previously unaware of each other's existence. This movie about a deer caught in the headlights was made at the point in Downey’s life when everything was tumbling down. Filmmaker and Downey pal James Toback wrote the script in four days, inspired by the televised image of Downey in handcuffs when he was arrested on drug charges. The movie was shot in 11 days, between Downey’s initial court appearance and his later trip to jail, and was released the same month as the actor’s release from prison. It's impossible to watch the scene where Allen stares at himself in a mirror and warns himself to get his act together without feeling like the familiar line between performance and reality has been shattered.
