Girl Talk coming back to Central Ohio
It’s wasn’t too long ago that Gregg Gillis was attending Case Western University in Cleveland, studying biomedical engineering.
The Pittsburgh native was successful at it, landing a nice full-time job after graduating. But music remained his passion, and he wanted to follow that dream, too.
Like a superhero with an alias, he played weekend shows overseas under the name Girl Talk, always flying home by Monday morning to get back to that day job.
Eventually he became popular enough that the day job was no longer necessary. He’s obviously popular enough in Central. After selling out back-to-back shows earlier this year at Newport Music Hall, Girl Talk is coming back to the area April 24 to headline SpringFest at Ohio Wesleyan University.
His style of mixing different popular songs into his own creation has created some controversy among those who don’t like to see songs illegally sampled, but whether you agree with his style or not, you can’t argue that Girl Talk is quickly becoming one of the most popular underground acts out there.
