Weezer
The release of Weezer's latest album, "Raditude," has been delayed a week (it's now coming out Nov. 3), but their first headlining gig of the year went ahead as scheduled. At the relatively cozy Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles, a visibly excited Rivers Cuomo led his bandmates through a mix of new songs and old classics, plus a few covers that have emerged as set staples of late, including Lady Gaga's "Poker Face" and MGMT's "Kids." New drummer Josh Freese (late of Nine Inch Nails and DEVO) seems to have dialed the band's rock-out quotient up a notch, and drummer-turned-rhythm-guitarist Pat Wilson clearly relishes his new role as a foil to Cuomo and lead guitarist Brian Bell. We're still not sure what's up with those white jumpsuits, but all in all, it was an auspicious night for a veteran alt-rock band that still has a few tricks up their sleeves.
