Nova creatively caters to all palates with its contemporary American menu full of familiar choices and gourmet diversions. The restaurant's blues and jazz themed storefront and indigo lights certainly add spice to Delaware's downtown scene, which hasn't had such a modern and happening diner in many years. Though you'll see patrons of all ages, Nova particularly appeals to the younger crowd by focusing on an interesting, artistic décor, hanging TV's, and a full bar with a wide array of intriguing cocktail choices. Of course, you might also just be there for the jazz music and award-winning ribs. Either way, you won't be disappointed.
Food: With so many choices, it's hard to go wrong. The lunch menu conveniently offers smaller portions of the dinner entrees at cheaper prices, and if you're in a real hurry, you can even order a hot, tasty meal from the "15 Minute Express Lunch" section. The house salad, a standard with most entrees, is an impressive piece on its own. It comes with onions, artichokes, mixed greens, cheese, and a sweet onion vinaigrette dressing. You may enjoy it so much that you forget your main dish is still to come.
Dinner options are many and varied, but a few of the customer favorites include: Nova burgers (four mini hamburgers with toppings), deep fried mac ‘n cheese, portabella mushroom ravioli (we can't rave enough about this), fish and chips, grilled salmon with lemon basil fettuccini, and any one of the hummus appetizers. Of course, you can't leave without trying Nova's smoked baby back pork ribs, a People's Choice Grand Champion at Rib-Fest. Make sure you save room for dessert, too!
Libations: Nova offers soft drinks, iced tea, coffee and general beverages in addition to a full bar and decent wine list. The bartenders make an excellent martini and will gladly cater your mixed drink to your preference. You can often find flavorful specialty martinis and margaritas featured on certain nights.
Décor: The atmosphere at Nova is modern and industrial, pleasing to the eye while still remaining laid-back. Large, comfortable booths with high backs and dividers make up most of the dining room. Small TV's are suspended in the corners and broadcast sports games without detracting from the atmosphere. The front room and bar are suited for those who want to drink, socialize and watch the game, while the dining room is a bit more formal. The lighting is warm and decorative, and strands of signature indigo lights add appeal and interest. Jazz and blues play softly in the background, and on a nice day, you can sit out on the patio and get some sun.
Crowd: Lunchtime on weekdays is generally quiet, and you can easily find a booth with some privacy. After 5 p.m. things get busier. We would recommend calling ahead for a reservation if you plan to go on Friday or Saturday evening, and especially if your party is larger than five people.
Service: Servers at Nova are friendly, helpful and fast! We've had a few pleasingly entertaining ones, too. Still, on a busy night expect to take some time and truly enjoy your meal and the atmosphere. If you're in a rush during lunchtime, order from the express menu.
Insider Tip: Nova is closed on Sundays and Mondays.
Bottom Line: Whether you're looking for a nice environment for a date, a business meeting, dinner with friends, or a night at the bar, Nova will exceed your expectations and keep you coming back.
