Do you have any idea how many pizza places there are in Columbus? I tried counting, but that got boring really fast.
The point is, there's a ton. Even the small chains you've never heard of have like three or four locations around town.
That's what makes Pizza House so special. It is one location, and it is excellent.
It's kind of hard to classify what makes a pizza place good because people have such strong opinions about what they like in a pie. So I think it's best to just compare a pizza to what you might find at a bigger chain. A Pizza House pizza is pretty similar to the traditional thin-crust at Donatos, only less greasy and a little bit thicker. I like Donatos, and I even like grease, but I can only take so much of it. That's where Pizza House comes in handy.
As an added bonus, this place doesn't even have a Web site. That might sound like a bad thing, but think about it -- what business is confident enough in its product these days that it doesn't feel the need to reach out and grab more customers online? Not many.
But Pizza House doesn't need that much help attracting people. There are two dining rooms -- neither of which are huge -- but during prime eating hours on the weekend, the place can be overflowing with customers. If you go during a rush and you don't feel like waiting for a table, there is a carryout room that also does a lot of business.
But enough about all the basics -- let's get to the menu.
Pizza is the staple, and although there's a large variety of topping choices, Pizza House doesn't do anything too crazy like taco pizza or buffalo chicken pizza. This place just does the basics, but it does them well enough that there's no need to do anything else.
There also are a few pasta dishes, 10 sandwiches and a couple of fish options on the menu. And the appetizers are worth mentioning, as well. The garlic bread with cheese is "famous," according to the menu, and I won't argue. It's good stuff. The wings, fried mushrooms, jalapeno poppers and salads are all worth trying.
Although it's located kind of out in the middle of nowhere -- a little southwest of downtown Worthington -- it's not too far from the Morse/Sinclair exit on 71. If you get lost, just keep driving around. You'll get more and more hungry, which will make the pizza taste all that much better.
