Gatto’s Pizza in the North Campus/Clintonville area is easy to miss when you're driving past for the first time. Once you locate the door and go inside, you’ll find a couple of friendly, laid-back dudes serious about pizza and seriously covered in flour to match the decor. Gatto’s famed thin-crust pizza does indeed offer a Donatos alternative, but somewhere in the quality neighborhood of “good” rather than “great.” At least that was my experience with a pick-up order (they deliver, too) that left me at home with less-than-warm pizza and a grease stain on the kitchen table. The pizza eating didn’t compensate for any of this -- a little chewy, but not in a savory way. There were some good flavors going on, so perhaps this pizza is best when eaten immediately after it comes out of the oven. In that case, there is no seating offered inside the shop, but there were a few seats set up haphazardly along the sidewalk outside that might do the trick. And for those who rely on plastic, Gatto’s only accepts cash.
